The United Nations Millennium Development Goals are useful. I feel that having a plan is the only way to complete any task. Yes, what these goals are asking for will take a lot of work and determination. I also think that Colombia will be able success for some of those goals. Colombia is fortunate enough to have a stable economy. Poverty is a issue, but with the Global Partnerships it should significantly decrease in the next 10 years. Perhaps 2015 is an unrealistic goal for some developing countries. I believe that if the country has strong enough Global Partnerships and with the right organizations. These Global Partnerships can provide anything a country need like supplies, medical care, labor and even money. That is why I invested a large amount of money into that goal. The problem with trying to implement the the gender equality goal is the church might not agree. 90% of people living in Colombia are Catholic, so the Catholic church has power. Lastly, I do not understand why mortality of children and women’s health are two different goals. I feel that those goals are almost the same goal. They directly effect each other.
The government and the guerrilla warfare are the most pressing issues. The government is completely corrupt, however Colombia is trying to reform it. It is just not working; the government is way in over its head. I feel that the Global Partnerships can provide assistance, perhaps they could send a representative to the country. The guerrilla warfare relates to the corrupted government. The conflict is causing people be displaced and it is dangerous. Also some rebellion groups are related to illegal drugs. Global Partnerships could also help this issue by sending money and armed forces to Colombia. First Colombia has to fix their unstable government before even attempting to stop the conflict.
I feel that Colombia has a strong school system and environmental sustainability plan. Even though women are not completely treated equal, 90% know how to read and spend about 14 years in school. I would think those statistics are amazing. I personally thought it would be a lower number for both because they have such a high poverty percentage (34.1%). Since some many people lived in poverty I thought those kids would drop out of school earlier to find a job; apparently that is not true. Another winning attribute their environmental sustainability program because a majority of the people living in the country have access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
